Judith Register is featured in the book "African American Librarians in the Far West: Pioneers and Trailblazers" by Binnie Tate Wilkins. She was the first African American to be elected President of the Arizona Library Association; she was Librarian of the Year in 1999, and was the first library director in the Phoenix Metro area to provide the public with access to the Internet in the early 1990s. After a decade or more as library director, Register was asked by the City Manager of Scottsdale to develop a new community resource department and became the first African American to be a part of the City of Scottsdale senior management team. She went on to develop a similar department for the City of Chandler, AZ before retiring. Despite leaving the library, she remained involved and still teaches information science courses at Arizona State University and Mesa Community College.
